简介:
Lecture abstract:Habitat planning and restoration through methods such as the establishment of natural protected areas, community-based conservation, and implementation of nature-based solutions (e.g., carbon agroforestry projects) is needed to complement ongoing measures to provide habitat for threatened species, restore forest environments and enhance people livelihoods in rural areas. In this lecture, Emerenciano will talk about his previous research with mixed-species bird flocks to preserve threatened Neotropical-Nearctic species; and discuss his work with rural indigenous communities to mitigate climate change effects through afforestation and reforestation projects within the “Plan Vivo” carbon standard framework.
Background: Emerenciano is originally from North Mexico where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in biology at the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon and a Master of Science degree in Natural Resources Management and Rural Development at ECOSUR. After graduating from the PhD program in Forest Sciences at Lakehead University he continued his work as a wildlife ecologist doing field-based research with Neotropical migratory bird species, community ecology and forest carbon projects in southern Mexico and Uganda.
